Haunted Houses in Chester County (and the surrounding areas)
Getting scared is the name of the game right? I know a few of you are serious haunted house fanatics. Personally, I am good hiding my head behind my husband and clinging on for dear life. But it’s the season, so if you are in need for a major scare, there are plenty of choices in and around the Philadelphia Suburbs that will fit the bill. If you are looking for the best haunted houses in Chester County (and the surrounding towns), here are our picks for the freakiest and most frightening to visit this October.
Explore Ghost Stories of the Delaware Valley at Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation
Fridays this October, explore colonial haunted history of Philadelphia at Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation. Touted as the “most haunted properties in Delaware County” your guide will share stories of 300 years of strange happenings, squeaky sounds, and ghostly stories. For me, supernatural happenings are always more terrifying than jump scares. And so, this would top my list as the scariest of the options. There are so many ghost stories in our area that no two visits are the same.
Purchase your tickets in advance ($13 and up), and, due to the graphic nature of some of the stories, children under 11 should not visit.
Brinton Lodge: The Most Haunted House in Berks County
Ok, I’ve been to Briton Lodge in Douglasville and believe me, I could NOT sleep that night after the experience. You can take a candlelight ghost tour or participate in a private paranormal investigation. Mediums and psychics have claimed that Brinton Lodge is a gateway to the Other Side. I am getting chills just thinking about the staircase. Tickets start at $22 per person, and space is limited.
Haunted Trips at The Bates Motel
We are all adjusting to the new reality of COVID, and the Bates Motel in Glen Mills has taken great steps to continue its haunting tradition while keeping safety a top priority. The Bates Motel has implemented timed platforms for entry, a new walking path, and strict no-touch guidelines by the staff. Instead of a haunted hayride, you will take a walk-through tour, so wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Tickets are required for entry, and the Bates Motel is open nightly through Halloween.
Overnight Paranormal Investigations at Pennhurst Asylum
What’s scarier than spending the night at a haunted asylum and one of the most haunted places in Pennsylvania? Take a tour of the four floors of Mayflower Hall. Go in the underground tunnels. Use instruments to discover paranormal activity. Ghosts abound after 25 years abandoned at Pennhurst Asylum in Spring City. Not feeling as brave as an overnight? Tickets are available for daytime history tours, photography tours, and the weekend events at Max Security, the Morgue, and the Containment Tunnels.
Are you ready to go the best haunted houses around Philadelphia? Be sure to check each locations’ website for ticket and reservation availability. There are plenty of other tame, less spine-chilling activities to do this fall in Chester County. Visit a pumpkin patch, or take a hike to see the great fall foliage.
