Downingtown, about 30 miles west of Philadelphia, offers a great variety of homes perfect for first-time home buyers, active adult communities, luxury homes, and new construction. Home to the Downingtown School District, and the highly-rated Downingtown STEM academy, Downingtown draws families from around the area looking for an active suburban lifestyle with a hometown feel.
One interesting claim to fame is the filming of the 1958 classic movie The Blob, filmed in and around the borough. Although the original diner used in filming is no longer at the location, it still brings a sense of pride to the residents.
Downingtown is home to a number of Pennsylvania’s best micro-breweries including Levante, Victory, Stolen Sun, and East Branch. The town center has a number of fabulous restaurants, boutique shops, and historic buildings. Just outside of the borough is Marsh Creek State Park, part of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation of Natural Resources, and home to 535 acre Marsh Creek Lake. Open year round, the park offers hiking, water sports, fishing, a public pool and beach, and camping.
